Virtually Famous: IZZY BIZU – Evening Standard, 26 June 2015

Among the hopeful up-and-comers at Brighton’s Great Escape festival last month, Izzy Bizu stood out in one the city’s gritty venues like a glass of champagne in a kebab shop. Half English, half Ethiopian, the south Londoner has the looks of a supermodel and a slinky soul voice honed by long periods of Winehouse worship as well as Ella Fitzgerald and Marvin Gaye. Discovered at 18 at an open mic night singing while Emeli Sande[ACUTE] was in the audience, a 2013 EP led to a tour supporting a pre-superstardom Sam Smith. Now she’s signed to Sony, with a powerful, funky new single, Adam & Eve, out this week. Look out for the accompanying song, Diamond, a smouldering slowie that better suits that classy voice. She’ll be on one of the smaller stages at Glastonbury on Saturday, at lunchtime in La Pussy Parlure[CORRECT] – another early step on a deserved ascent.
